St Croix is the largest of the Virgin Islands, with a majestic landscape to match. It is also, arguably, the most beautiful. The luscious mountains and verdant rainforests will seduce you, and the coastal planes are so fecund that they were given the nickname “Garden of the Antilles” for the amount of sugar cane produced there. Now, St Croix is renowned for its rum production and its stunning marine sanctuary, which is the perfect place to snorkel or scuba dive, as well as a smattering of eighteenth century forts. St Croix is a fantasy island of sugary white sand and sparkling turquoise waters in the cays and islets. Charter a yacht and sail around the archipelago, and discover all the wonder of paradise. And you get untouched nature, luxurious pampering and deep history of sugar cane plantations and rum distilleries, with all the comforts of home because you can pay in U.S. dollars. Enjoy the added delights of duty free shopping and the delectable West Indian Curry in St Croix. Or curl up on an undisturbed beach in total seclusion and escape from the stresses of your everyday life in one of the most beautiful spots on earth.

St Croix has a diverse and fascinating history. Seven different nations have flown flags over St Croix, each one leaving its own unique mark on the island. Now, French, Spanish and Danish influences coexist in “big island” as it is called by the locals. The main towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted have quaint winding narrow roads that pass through the historic Danish buildings. Frederiksted can seem deserted until a cruise ship comes by, and then the shops and stands magically appear as if from thin air. Wait for this to happen by strolling along the beautiful beaches that comes right up to the town. Christiansted is more bustling, with a lively boardwalk and marina area. Check out the Cruzan Rum Factory to see where the island’s favorite drink has been made for three hundred years, and to get samples. You can aslo view the stunning murals that depict images of island life. It is a great reminder to take it slow here, and just relax on the beach with the locals. Don’t get flustered when businesses operate on “island time”, just enjoy taking things slow.
