There aren’t many better ways to spend your night in L.A. than to go to a great lounge and sip on your favorite drink. Santa Monica hosts plenty of bars and lounges but not all of them are worth your time. We’ve picked the three best lounges in Santa Monica based on our concierge evaluations, user reviews, and a host of other factors so you don’t have to spend your time on it.

Santa Monica Alley Lounge

Alley Lounge

If you’re looking for a nice, quiet place that’s not always bustling with people, the Alley Lounge serves some great cocktails and is hosted by friendly bartenders. The lounge is renowned for being a place where you can actually engage in conversation without the need to raise your voice.

The bartenders take mixology to the next level and even if you don’t find a drink you fancy on the menu, they’ll craft something up to your taste. The ambiance of the whole place is very inviting with traditional furniture and close seating arrangements.

The drinks to check out at this Santa Monica lounge are the Betty Boop and Smirking Rhino. The Betty Boop is made from vodka, blueberries and lime while the Smirking Rhino is more hard-hitting with rye whiskey, ginger, lemon and agave served on the rocks. The excellent fried potato skins at this bar are also worth checking out.

The great speakeasy vibe, classy décor, and artfully crafted drinks make this one of the hottest lounges in LA to spend the night with your loved one or friends.

Santa Monica Bar Chloe

Bar Chloe

Bar Chloe is a small and intimate lounge located near the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. There isn’t much space inside the bar, but that’s what makes it so great to go on first dates. The cozy nature of the place creates an intimate atmosphere, and the dimmed lighting only adds to that effect.

The bartenders offer friendly conversation and craft drinks to perfection. If the drinks menu isn’t to your taste, you can ask the bartenders to improvise, and they really do come through – the mixology is solid.

The food selection is limited but offers some delicious favorites like mac & cheese. The Moscow Mule served in this Santa Monica lounge is crafted to perfection and tastes as it should.

The space can get claustrophobic when it’s crowded, but if you come at the right hours, you’ll be welcomed by a cool and romantic ambiance.

Santa Monica Copa d’ Oro

Copa d’ Oro

The Copa d’ Oro opens its doors around 5:30 pm and offers happy hour deals that last till 8:00 pm. There aren’t many lounges that offer happy hour deals this late, and that’s what makes Copa d’Oro such a standout spot for drinks in Santa Monica.

There are two enclaves inside that offer privacy for groups to hang out and drink. This is a “happening” place, so the atmosphere isn’t exactly intimate, with noticeably loud background music. However, engaging in conversation without exhausting your lungs is still possible.

The drinks selection is decent—there are around 8 different cocktails to choose from. The quality of the drinks varies with the bartender, but they are generally solid. This isn’t a place you’ll go to spend your night; however, it’s the place to come before for pre-booze sort.

The drink to have here is the Caipirinha, which happens to be Brazil’s national cocktail. It is made with cachaca, sugar and lime. On Taco Tuesdays the bar serves $2 all night long.

The main draw of this place has to be the happy hour. With a decent selection of cocktails and a $7.00 price tag, this is a great place to go on casual dates or outings.
